88 values from 76 records · 14 records without this value
The default excludes system totals and lengths with an unconfirmed basis. Reported flight lengths count separately; grouped duty types are counted once without expanding unconfirmed multiplicities. Map traces and delivered belt lengths are excluded.
Each stored value counts once, with no weighting by conveyor count. Multiple reported flight lengths or belt ratings in one project can contribute multiple observations. The diameter chart starts with mixed measurement bases; its view selector separates them. The length chart starts with individual conveyor lengths. A source reference rating does not establish the current installed belt.
Enclosed bulk material transport
A pipe conveyor wraps the belt around the material between loading and discharge. That enclosure, combined with flexible routing, offers practical advantages across ports, mines, power plants and industrial sites.
The closed belt limits airborne material along the route, helping protect workers, nearby communities and sensitive areas. Loading and discharge still require appropriate dust control. [1]
Enclosing the carrying strand helps retain the product. A closed return strand can also contain material adhering to the belt, reducing carryback spillage when its closure is maintained. [4]
Less escaped material means less cleanup around idlers, galleries and beneath the conveyor. Loeffler's petroleum-coke case reports substantial cleanup savings after installation. [4]
A system designed for this duty can convey different materials in the upper and lower strands. Both loads remain enclosed, allowing the return journey to serve a useful transport task. [5]
Fewer transfers, a narrower corridor and less cleanup can reduce total project cost. Those savings must be weighed against a specialized belt, additional idlers and generally higher power demand than a comparable troughed conveyor. Material properties, belt closure and loading and discharge design determine which benefits a project can achieve. [1]
This list synthesizes recurring advantages in engineering literature and manufacturer guidance. The numbering organizes the benefits; project priorities depend on the material, route and operating requirements.
Design, commissioning & operation
A stable pipe shape depends on the belt, rollers, route and tension working together. These ten concerns bring together recurring failure mechanisms in engineering literature and Luis Morgado's published field observations.
The overlapping belt edges must stay in their intended position. Rotation can release material or deliver a folded belt to the discharge pulley.
Watch for: a migrating seam, changing overlap, recurring spillage or folding near discharge. Investigate the causes in the belt, rollers and tension system. [C1] [1]
Too little stiffness can allow collapse; too much increases roller forces, forming resistance and fatigue. A higher tensile rating alone does not establish pipe-forming suitability.
Watch for: an untested belt specification, poor closure, loss of roller contact or large power changes after belt replacement. Match stiffness and edge construction to the actual conveyor. [C3] [C9]
Panel alignment, roller adjustability, support spacing and gaps between roller ends affect tracking and can trap or damage a belt edge.
Watch for: localized edge wear, scuff marks on panel steel or repeated tracking adjustments. Check the assembled geometry, roller condition and available adjustment range. [C2]
Diameter-based radius rules are preliminary guidance. Curve angle, belt construction, tension and cross-section deformation affect whether a route is workable.
Watch for: excessive ovalization, collapse or cracking in curves. Validate the selected belt against the actual route and operating tension range. [C4]
Repeated pipe formation and opening can fatigue the belt if the geometry forces excessive bending. Transition length and roller support must suit the chosen belt.
Watch for: cracking, damaged transverse reinforcement, unsupported folding or premature wear near the terminals. Review the transition layout with the belt supplier. [C7] [2]
Average tonnage and a nominal fill percentage do not establish usable capacity. Lump size, feed variability and deformation in curves can reduce the available margin.
Watch for: a bulging pipe, inconsistent loading or repeated feed trips. Confirm peak feed, actual lump distribution and the most restrictive curved section. [C5]
An overload trip may act too late if excess material reaches rigid panels while the belt is still moving. Detection and relief arrangements must account for actual stopping behavior.
Watch for: unproven sensors, inadequate movable relief panels where used, or no recorded stopping performance. Include documented functional checks in commissioning. [C2]
Take-up force, travel and carriage guidance must maintain the required belt tension through operating changes. Transient calculations need measured commissioning checks.
Watch for: carriage skew, binding, exhausted travel, tension surges or instability during empty and loaded starts and stops. Reassess controls when the duty changes. [C1] [C6]
Holding and bending the pipe belt creates loads and losses beyond lifting the material. Belt stiffness, roller contact, temperature and break-in conditions affect the demand.
Watch for: unexpectedly high empty-running power, difficult cold starts, heating or drive overload. Check measured resistance against the design before increasing drive size. [C8] [4]
Premature belt, reinforcement or splice failures can reflect a mismatch between the belt and equipment. Buying the same replacement can reproduce the same problem.
Watch for: recurring damage, supplier specifications that disagree, missing test results or no empty/loaded acceptance record. Require coordinated engineering and field verification before selecting the remedy. [C7] [C8] [C9]
Material temperature, moisture, stickiness, abrasiveness and cover compatibility also belong in the selection review. Enclosing hot material reduces heat exchange, so a cover rating for an open conveyor cannot automatically be applied to a pipe conveyor. Use project-specific limits and recorded operating checks. [2]
Morgado's articles are Portuguese field observations and engineering guidance published in 2016–2017. They inform this review alongside Zamiralova's dissertation, Metso's belt guidance and Loeffler's paper. The ten topics are a practical synthesis, rather than a published failure-frequency ranking.

How to read the register
Primary evidence explicitly describes completed physical installation, commissioning, operating duty, performance or maintenance of an installed asset.
A modern supplier or engineering reference identifies the project, but actual completion or commissioning has not been directly verified. Study completion alone is insufficient.
A legacy source reports an installation. Newer project-specific corroboration has not yet been located.
An order, proposal or expected date is recorded, with completion unconfirmed. These records are excluded from the installed / used evidence total.
These categories describe evidence for an installation's existence. Supplier and contractor accounts are primary sources for their own work; they are not independent operator confirmation. An A record can still retain legacy dimensions or an inferred identity match.
Keep the measurement basis. A system total is not a single-flight length. Nominal and outer pipe diameters differ. Multiple capacities can describe separate duties or materials and must not be added. A study, project, inauguration or plant-start year is not automatically a conveyor commissioning year.
Keep historical use separate from later status. Moorburg's host power plant closed in July 2021; the individual conveyor disposition is unverified. Most records have no separate current-status check. Dalmia's Dalmiapuram site has documented pipe transport, but its five CKIT planned entries are not yet mapped to specific completed assets.

Provides a Chaibasa pipe-conveyor transport description, but no 2.4 km length or supplier identification. Future-tense wording does not establish commissioning of the disputed Macmet asset.
Printed p. 79 establishes the year it went into operation; direct retrieval was blocked, but the indexed original report text was reviewed.
FLSmidth is named as the client. The Dürnrohr 1,000-ton figure is structural weight, not conveying capacity. The Wotan 250 m entry is not matched to BEUMER’s additional 213 m asset.
Originally bulk solids handling 34 (2014), no. 6. Supplier author quotes Schwenk production manager Dirk Fabian; this is not an independently issued operator report.
Printed pp. 34–36. The additional conveyor is 213 m in the detailed description; the introduction rounds it to 200 m.
Reports transport during 1997–2016 on a 1.8 km pipe conveyor. The cumulative 3.25 million m³ is not an hourly rating.
Printed/PDF pp. 7 and 41: approximately 2 km; dismantling completed in September 2017. Publication day is not established.
Phase 3.5 has an explicit July 2013 completion date. Direct access was challenged; the indexed primary project page was reviewed. Annual capacity refers to the entire terminal.
Reference 22028Z describes a U-conveyor upgrade of the original pipe conveyor at Prunéřov. Generic product capacities are not assigned to this installation.
Section 3.5.4, printed p. 36 / PDF p. 68, describes the existing batching building and pipe conveyor. Future ash-recovery proposals are separate.
The Moneypoint entry names redundant pipe conveyors for conditioned electrostatic-precipitator ash. Exact route correspondence with the 2024 ESB process description remains unresolved.
Supplier case quoting Ferrybridge project manager Andrew Mills. Names two installed pipe conveyors but does not explicitly establish self-closing flat-belt construction. Retained as a technology-identification lead, not an installation row.
Names plant managers and supplier personnel; two installed conveyors and October 2016 system commissioning. January 2017 running date is distinct. The figure caption explicitly uses tonnes per hour.
Public professional project descriptions reviewed from indexed profile text. Project periods and commissioning responsibilities do not establish dated plant acceptance. Plant-level records remain B without corroboration.
Published description names Ledvice, Prunéřov, Schwenk Cement, Linz AG, Callao and Ghent. Captions were unavailable; no site-specific timestamps or engineering values were extracted from the footage.
Embedded by Macmet’s official conveyor page. Description names two supplied conveyors, but does not distinguish the Gayatri and TPCIL route specifications or provide acceptance dates.
Embedded by Macmet’s official conveyor page. Description explicitly names Nandihalli yard to Jindal Toranagallu and supplier supervision of erection and commissioning. Video date is not the commissioning date.
Description identifies Langshan port, Shandong Steel and Rizhao Steel and an installed 6.6 km system. Linked to the expansion record, not the original three-conveyor system. Publication date is not installation date.
Original bulk solids handling 32 (2012), no. 6, pp. 16–21. Documents belt replacement and commissioning on existing BC-8, not a new conveyor installation.
Paper 21-06; archive upload year differs from conference year. Colombian and Argentine examples lack enough site identity for new installation records.
SME preprint 12-129. Unnamed field examples are research leads, not independently identified installation records.
Paper 20-08. Russian power plant is unnamed; similarity to Reftinskaya dimensions alone does not prove identity.
Reviewed PDF is Kessler’s pipe-guidance paper. The archive lists it as a combined session with Hermann Fruehstueck’s separate Ropecon presentation; that does not make him a coauthor of this PDF. Prototype planning is not counted as a named commercial installation.
Volume 20, no. 1, pp. 39–41. Design example and Australian author address do not establish an Australian installation.
Institutional metadata and abstract reviewed; Gabriel Lodewijks is listed as promotor. DOI 10.4233/uuid:a989069c-54e4-4d80-a30a-a6fb9b333287. Full thesis has not been assessed in this pass.
Project archive. Design criteria sheet STD-DS2, sheet 2 of 2, identifies both conveyors and their dimensions. Field-test records establish installed equipment. The original documents are not hosted on this website.
Approximate alignments from the marked geographic drawing. CV-9502 runs from the refinery to the coke yard; CV-9506 runs from the wharf transfer toward the shiploader. Equipment endpoints remain approximate.
Establishes the Lagoven refinery project location at Amuay, Venezuela. Its 1982 refinery-upgrade year is not assigned to either pipe conveyor.
User project archive: 06 Projects, Site Visits and Quotes/ST Paper Pipe Belt/ST Paper Pipe Belt Site Visit.pdf (DOCX also retained). Page 1 establishes Franklin, Virginia and an operating-system inspection; page 3 gives belt descriptions and three 50 hp tail motors. Designer-authored paper hosted by CDI. Printed p. 18, Table 1, names five references and distinguishes project pipe dimensions from generic test/FEM examples. Printed p. 20 separately describes Itaqui PC1 and PC2. These historical reports do not establish the current belt or plant status.
Designer-authored article linked from CDI’s publications page. Custom-Engineered Belt Solutions and Figure 4 explicitly describe a 427 mm formed pipe. Nominal versus outer basis is not specified; it must not be silently normalized to a 400 mm designation.
The search-indexed supplier excerpt lists 400 mm belt pipe diameter with matching 1500 mm width, ST2500, 1000 t/h and 4.5 m/s. Direct page retrieval failed on the review date. This partial-access claim is retained as an unresolved alternative, not selected as the plotted measurement or assigned a nominal/outer basis.
Archive packet retained in the Pipe Belt Library. PDF p. 1 identifies the Union Camp Franklin 1300 project and equipment 430-001-00; p. 6, sections 2.0–2.1, explicitly reports 400 mm pipe diameter and approximately 5700 ft centre-to-centre. The report is a historical specification, not a current survey. Originals and correspondence contact details are not hosted on the website.
The live engineer portfolio describes field measurements at Porto do Itaqui and separate 4.3 km / 600 m conveyors. Its Aditya Birla Dahej twin 4.4 km coal system has a different scope from the 1999 Indo Gulf/Birla Copper record and is not merged by shared customer/location alone.
